Director of Workforce Development. Thresholds (www.thresholdsgr.org) a Grand Rapids Michigan, nonprofit organization that for over fifty years has supported adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) is seeking a Director of Workforce Development. This is an office-based position, located in our headquarters in the Special Olympics of Michigan Center for Inclusion in southwest Grand Rapids.

The Director of Workforce Development is a strategic leadership role, ensuring through effective human resources practices that Thresholds meets its mission of Empowering Adults with Disabilities to Lead Meaningful Connective Lives. The Director of Workforce Development originates and leads Human Resources practices and objectives to provide an employee-oriented, high-performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce.

How you’ll make a difference at Thresholds

  • Serve as a principal member of the agency Leadership Team, influencing policies, practices and strategies.
  • Lead the HR department and manage key HR functions including recruitment, employee relations, compensation and benefits, performance management, training and development, and compliance.
  • Supervise and mentor HR staff.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies, regulations and labor laws, and required funder documentation.
  • Develop and implement talent acquisition strategies to attract and retain top talent.
  • Lead various committees and projects.
  • Analyze existing recruitment processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop and execute strategies to address gaps in process.
  • Partner with senior leadership to develop and execute HR strategies that support the agency’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
  • Advise and support department heads on employee-related matters, providing counsel on conflict resolution, performance issues, and organizational changes.
  • Assist with employee inquiries on HR-related topics, including policy interpretation, performance management, benefits, conflict resolution, and career development.
  • Create and manage employee engagement initiatives to foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Oversee employee benefit programs, ensuring they are competitive and aligned with agency goals.
  • Lead HR analytics efforts to track trends and emerging staffing needs.
  • Serve as agency Corporate Compliance Officer.

  • Readiness to Learn Ongoing learning of HR principles, relevant laws and regulations, and sector-specific requirements.
